UUWausau welcomes people with diverse religious views, and is one of the few congregations in central Wisconsin that will provide services for same-sex couples. We make our church home available for
Our sanctuary, with tall wooden arches and stained glass, seats 200. Before and after services, guests tend to linger in the atrium, a beautiful space with stone walls, high ceiling, and lots of natural light. You may also wish to use the atrium, which seats 75, for a formal or informal reception. Or the ceremony itself can be held in the atrium with its great blend of traditional and modern style. ![]() Another great space, the vaulted dining room, also seats 75. Our fee for use of the building is $500 for events involving 50 or more people. This covers up to 8 hours of use (including planning, rehearsal, decoration, ceremony, photos, conversing afterward with guests, and clean-up). For an extended reception, plan to add another 4-8 hours. For smaller events we charge $50 per hour. Click HERE for our Building Use Reservation Form and more details. Please call the church office to determine if the building is available on your preferred date. Then print this form and return to us with a $100 deposit to hold that date. The building use fee does not include the services of minister or musicians. We welcome you to invite whomever you choose to officiate at your ceremony. If you would like our minister to officiate, see his note below. A Note from our Minister, Rev. Paul Beckel: The centerpiece of any marriage is the promise you make to one another. The ceremony that frames your promise might be filled with flowers, music, and special traditions...or simply a few words of gratitude. I don't require couples to use a particular ceremony, to be members of the church, or to profess specific (or any) religious beliefs. But since I invest quite a bit of myself into building a relationship with you, I only do a couple of nonmember weddings per year. To see if we can make a good match, please attend a Sunday service and introduce yourself to me afterward. Depending upon your timeline, we may also have a ministerial intern or lay leader who can help you with wedding planning, and legally officiate. My fee ($350) includes a pre-marital inventory which will help you to recognize the areas of promise and challenge in your relationship. So typically we'll meet in person to get to know one another. Then you'll take the pre-marital inventory online. We'll meet at least once again to look over the results. Then we'll start to work on the details of the ceremony...possibly passing drafts back and forth via email. I'll provide lots of options for you to consider, and customize the service with the words or special rituals that express the uniqueness of your relationship. Lastly, on the night before the ceremony, we should have a rehearsal if there are more than a couple of people in the wedding party. This is a busy time for you...possibly a time of dramatic life changes. It may or may not be a good time to learn about Unitarian Universalism and the richness of liberal religious community. If you have any questions, please let me know. In any case, throughout the process you'll inevitably get an idea of the nature of our creedless religious tradition. I look forward to helping you to make the most of this time to deepen and strengthen your commitment to one another. |
