Clarence Darrow was America’s most celebrated and reviled lawyer. He took on racism, social injustice and the death penalty, all the while haunted and scarred by personal demons. Gary L. Anderson is the country’s lauded portrayer of legendary attorney Clarence Darrow; with his Darrow performance characterized as in the same league as Holbrook’s Mark Twain in newspapers across the country.

It Takes a Village
Monday, 09 January 2012

It takes a village to unite the most divided people on earth.

Budrus is an award-winning feature documentary film shown at General Assembly which we are bringing to Wausau on February 6.

Palestinian girl The film is about a Palestinian community organizer, Ayed Morrar, who unites local Fatah and Hamas members along with Israeli supporters in an unarmed movement to save his village of Budrus from destruction by Israel’s Separation Barrier. Success eludes them until his 15-year-old daughter, Iltezam, launches a women’s contingent that quickly moves to the front lines. Struggling side by side, father and daughter unleash an inspiring, yet little-known, movement in the Occupied Palestinian Territories that is still gaining ground today. In an action-filled documentary chronicling this movement from its infancy,

Budrus shines a light on people who choose nonviolence to confront a threat.  The movie is directed by award-winning filmmaker Julia Bacha, and produced by Bacha, Palestinian journalist Rula Salameh, and filmmaker and human rights advocate Ronit Avni.

Feb 5 - Truthiness: The Recurring Threat

We celebrate Darwin’s birthday with a worried look at the newest attempts to push psuedo-science in public school curricula...and a confident projection that truth will out. [Also: special appearance of Clarence Darrow, as a preview to next month's performance]

Feb 12 - Truth and Visual Manipulation

With inexpensive digital tools, it’s easy to create and share false but convincing images. So is there any truth within photo-manipulation? Is there any defense against such deception? Or do we simply have to mistrust everything we see?

Feb 19 - Truth and Bias

How does bias affect our understandings of the news, consumer decisions, and our religious perspectives?

Feb 26 - Truth and Advocacy

Teachers, mentors, parents, media, political and religious leaders: should they simply state what they know and then get out of the way? Or can good leadership include exerting influence...and promoting a particular point of view?
